Canonsburg Borough: They Have Chocolate!

The Borough of Canonsburg, located in Washington County, is considered part of the Pittsburgh, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area, as the borough is located 18 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The borough has approximately 8,850 residents in a 2.3 sq. mi. area.

The town is in a rich coal district, and most of the town's work force once worked in local steel mills or coal mines. Interstate 79 and U.S. Route 19 pass through the town, as does the Pittsburgh and Ohio Central Railroad. A trolley used to operate from Washington, PA to Pittsburgh through the borough until 1953.

Canonsburg is also known as the birthplace of two famous singers; Pierino Ronald "Perry" Como (May 18, 1912 – May 12, 2001), who was an Italian-American singer, actor and television personality. During a career spanning more than half a century, he recorded exclusively for RCA Victor for 44 years, after signing with the label in 1943.

Stanley Robert "Bobby" Vinton (born April 16, 1935) is an American former singer and occasional actor, who also hosted his own self-titled TV show in the late 1970s. As a teen idol, he became known as "The Polish Prince”, as his music paid tribute to his Polish heritage. One of his most popular songs is "Blue Velvet" (a cover of the 1951 song recorded by Tony Bennett) which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963.

For over 50 years, Sarris Candies, known for not only its superior rich taste, but adherence to high-quality standards and great customer service, is created in Canonsburg.

Canonsburg is home to an annual Oktoberfest, named by aol.com as one of the “Top Ten Oktoberfest Celebrations” in the nation, and Canonsburg's Old-Fashioned Christmas, touted as one of PA's most Hallmark-esque towns to visit during the holiday season by VisitPA.com.
